Get Your Home Ready for Autumn
From stocking wood for your wood burning stove to adding cosy decor and seasonal touches, it’s time to get ready for autumn.

Prepare Your Stove
Before lighting the first fire of the season, it’s worth giving your stove some attention. Start by arranging for a professional chimney sweep to come and check your flue or chimney for soot build up. We’d always advise having this done at least once a year to ensure both safety and efficiency. Next, check the stove’s door seals and glass. A strong seal helps your stove burn more efficiently, while intact glass keeps the fire safe and contained. If the rope is frayed or the seal has split, it’s time to replace it before the colder weather sets in. Finally, refresh your stove by clearing away old ash or debris.

When sourcing the right wood for your stove, look out for the ‘Ready to Burn’ logo which guarantees that the wood has been properly dried and seasoned. Thinking ahead is always worthwhile, so order your logs now to ensure better availability before the winter demand. If space allows, why not make firewood part of your decor too! Neatly stacked a safe distance from your stove or stored in a woven basket or stylish log store, it adds a rustic autumn charm to your home.

Autumn decor is all about warmth, layers and texture, so introduce tactile elements such as wool throws, faux fur blankets and chunky knit cushions in earthy hues to instantly make your living room feel like the perfect cosy snug. To enhance the glow of the fire, add candles and lanterns, creating a soft, atmospheric light that complements the stove’s flickering flames in the evening.

Celebrate the season by bringing the colours of the outdoors, indoors. Natural elements such as dried flowers and autumn foliage add texture and character, while a colour palette of warm autumnal shades - think rust, burnt orange, burgundy and forest green - instantly transform the mood of your interiors. For a bolder touch, consider a colour-drenched room in earthy tones with a Midnight stove as the standout feature, or opt for shutters in a rich autumnal shade to complete the look.
